Waterford Credit Union has been a good client of ours for many years now. We do a lot of their marketing, advertising and design. Each year we create a new campaign with a specific theme to keep their message fresh in the public eye. This year was a particularly special one because 2013 is the 50th anniversary of their founding. They wanted something extra special, something that would really stand out.

 

So after a lot of research and brainstorming, we created a retrospective of great ideas that were conceived during the 1960’s (the time when Waterford Credit Union was established) and have remained popular to this day (just like Waterford Credit Union). These included the Austin Mini, the Waterford Stanley, the Beattles music and the television set, all of which we were able to link with specific credit union products, such as car loans, home improvement loans, holiday loans and further education loans.

The style of the campaign was very much in keeping with the 1960’s and reminiscent of an era which saw great change in social attitudes, fashion, music etc. We had great fun pulling it all together, and thankfully, the credit union saw its potential and bought into it straight away.

 

The next task was to apply the new campaign across both of their branches, which meant designing and producing a wide range of high impact signage, posters and other graphics. We also set about re-skinning their website, giving the home page and other key pages a retro, old fashioned look for the duration of 2013. We did the same on their social media and every other channel they use.

 

The key success factors were creativity and consistency. We had to tell their brand story in a way that sparked people’s interest, and we had to do in a way that worked across all media. We succeeded on both fronts: the campaign was a big hit among staff, customers and the wider public. It got people talking about the credit union and enquiring about different products. Job done.
